Early Circuit Court record book, opened, with early Circuit Court Index book Circuit Court Records


 The first Court of Law and Equity in Monroe County, TN was  Circuit Court, which heard both Civil and Criminal Cases.

CIRCUIT COURT LOOSE RECORDS contain the loose paper pleadings filed in the Monroe County, TN Circuit Court, and contain the original pleadings, such as complaints, answers, depositions, summons, final judgments, etc.  Some files are complete, but most files do not contain all the original documents filed in each case.

CIRCUIT COURT MINUTE BOOKS contain cases filed in the Circuit Court for Monroe County, TN, and were heard before a judge, or a judge and a jury.  Most entries are either final judgments or continuances.

CIRCUIT COURT EXECUTION BOOKS contain the costs incurred in the cases heard and entered in the Circuit Court Minute Books.  Sometimes one or two additional lines are added that give the final outcome and verdict in the case.

  • Circuit Court Minute Books (both Civil and Criminal):                       May 1829 through April 1951
  • Circuit Court Execution Dockets (both Civil and Criminal):              November 1827 through July 1848
